Denise Guerrero Pilalo, LMSW, Behavioral Health Therapist, Brockport

Denise chose a medical career, specifically in therapy, because she has always been interested in the diverse experiences that shape people. Early on, she realized how powerful mental health support can be in helping people overcome challenges, find clarity, and live more fulfilling lives. Denise wanted a career that would allow her to be a steady presence for others during difficult times, and therapy offered a path where she could combine passion, empathy, and meaningful connection. And for her, being part of someone’s healing and growth is incredibly rewarding.

Denise’s approach to patient care is rooted in empathy, collaboration, and individualized treatment. She strives to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and respected. Ultimately, her goal is to empower people to understand themselves better and build lasting skills for their well-being.

Denise is deeply committed to providing trauma-informed care, particularly to women who have experienced domestic violence or sexual abuse. These clients often face complex emotional and physical health challenges, and a trauma-informed approach allows her to build trust, provide safety, and support healing without re-traumatizing them. Additionally, she is deeply interested in working with teens, as adolescence is a critical time for emotional and identity development. Denise focuses on helping teens navigate issues like anxiety, depression, and self-esteem.

In her spare time, she enjoys engaging in activities that help her relax, recharge, and focus on her own self-care and wellbeing. She finds painting, coloring, and diamond painting particularly soothing. She also loves to travel and enjoys the new experiences and perspectives it offers.
