Valerie Mostyn, DSW, LCSW
Valerie chose to work in mental health because she was very interested in how the mind worked and how mental illnesses affected it. From there, her passion for helping others to become the best they could be led me to the career path of being a therapist. She focuses mostly on working with patients from the age of 5 to early adulthood as she believes if you can give people a good foundation and support them early on, they will have the tools to better handle their mental health symptoms as adults.
Not everyone is ready to dive into therapy in the first session, so she may spend some time getting the patient to feel comfortable in the office and with her. Therapy doesn’t look the same for every person, and she wants patients to feel safe knowing therapy can be whatever they need it to be at that moment. She also likes to use creativity and humor in her sessions so that there is an element of fun when possible.
When she isn’t working, Valerie crafts, reads, cooks, gardens, travels, plays with her dog Maisie Moo, goes on adventures with friends, and sees musicals on Broadway every summer!
